iKapa Dance is a Cape Town-based contemporary dance organisation that uses artistic excellence as a vehicle for social transformation, youth development and employment creation. The organisation was established in 2007 by Theo Ndindwa and Tanya Arshamian to provide a structure and springboard for their artistic trajectory, providing them with an avenue for training young dancers and a vehicle through which social change in local communities could be facilitated. The organisation’s philosophy of excellence goes beyond the creation and performance of new work, as is visible in its activities of empowerment and social development.
Theo Ndindwa, a skilled dance artist with extensive national and international experience, returned to South Africa in 2005 after refining his technical and choreographic skills in the United Kingdom. He is motivated to give back to disadvantaged communities and contribute positively to the social environment of this country. Tanya Arshamian, a dancer and choreographer originally from the U.K., is an equally dedicated social activist.
