> Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble

Formed in 2003 as part of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s outreach and development programme Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble (CPYWE) has established itself as a sought-after group and one of the best of its kind for festivals.   Along with the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Cape Music Academy and Masidlale  training projects, the CPYWE was formed to shape the musical lives of talented young people mainly from disadvantaged areas.  The 56 members, aged between 16 and 24, practise weekly under the direction of their conductor, wind specialist Sean Kierman.  Many members have gone on to study music and are now professional musicians, often playing in the CPO itself and nationally.
