The Africa Centre’s, Infecting The City Public Arts Festival, exploded onto the streets and public spaces of Cape Town for the fifth time from the 6th to the 10th March 2012. You can read all about the Festival and what happened at it on this site.

Infecting The City is the largest and most diverse annual public arts festival in South Africa. In 2012, celebrated local and international artists created artworks that unwrapped and unlocked the communal spaces in the Cape Town City Centre. The art will encourage audiences to see, hear and smell the extraordinary by taking a fresh look at our city, its citizens, and themselves in radically different ways.

Infecting The City 2012 would not have been possible without the generous partnership of the following organisations:

  • GIPCA
  • CT City Ballet
  • ARTSCAPE
  • Jazzart
  • CT Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Steve Biko Centre
  • UCT Opera School
  • UCT

Public Arts Festival

6th - 10th March 2012

presented by The Africa Centre

Public art has always been part of who we are on this continent and in this country. The interconnectedness of the African “us” has often been impeded however, throwing people apart and far away from each other, creating a physical and psychic separation. Infecting the City is a small attempt at igniting this interconnectedness through artistic expression, making public space public.
