Artists study the world we live in, adjust the colours, tease out hidden threads, adjust the balance, and show us reality in a different light.
For the 2011 Festival, Infecting The City invited a bunch of these creative folk to apply their minds and imaginations to Cape Town, and what a wealth of gems they uncovered! Their artworks made audiences aware of a whole wonderland that exists under the tarmac and behind the facades of the City that the audience thought they knew so well.
From hidden rivers that run beneath the streets, to forgotten monuments, sculptures and heritage sites. Humble dwellings, secret corners and concealed symbols; the fascinating people that carry a wealth of stories, histories and knowledge, and the men and women who maintain and protect Cape Town.
We called these artists our ‘City Treasurers’, who crafted fascinating journeys of discovery, and turned residents into wide-eyed tourist in their own City!
