Our public spaces are haunted by the memories of those who have inhabited them over the centuries, and the absences of those who have been excluded. Employing dance, performance and design, the artists of Imperfections transform and revitalise two prominent Cape Town sites. They acknowledge the forgotten and pay homage to those whose contribution to our country is seldom recognised.

In the Company Gardens they remodel The Delville Wood Memorial, a monument to peace that makes no mention of the thousands of black and coloured men – as well the women of all races – who served in the wars it commemorates.

They interrupt the flow of The Golden Acre – once the site of a colonial reservoir and the City’s first train station – in a ritual celebration of the ordinary citizens whose lives leave no lasting mark in the wash of history.

Catch Imperfections on these two sites on different days of the Festival.
