Making the Most of the ITC 2010 Festival
Infecting The City opened in February 2010 with a select programme on Saturday 13th, but as of Monday 15th most of the productions were repeated every day for the duration of the Festival. If you had the time, two leisurely days would have enabled you to enjoy everything scheduled for the Festival. If you were not so fortunate, we encouraged the audience to incorporate 45 minutes viewing into their working day, that way they could still manage to make the most of the wonderful opportunities offered by this inner-city festival.
Some of the festival’s performances were set at specific times and places. These included the two New Collaborative Works (Meet Market and Quiet Emergency), Dancing Jesus, and Windows Into A World. Imperfections alternated between two different venues over the Festival.
Other performances were durational and grew over the entire Festival week. The Mandala for Healing and The Wishing Wall could be visited a number of times during the course of the week to see how these pieces evolved, and people were encouraged to contribute to these works. They were also encouraged to get involved with what Treacle Theatre (The Naming and Claiming of Space) were up to. Grey Matter, Information People and Jump happened at random venues at arbitrary times throughout the CBD and the Festival.
The Right to Respond provided a critical platform for ITC 2010 on Tues 16th, Wed 17th and Fri 19th.Family and friends were encouraged to come into town on Saturday the 20th and take in a full morning of public art.
All events on the ITC programme were FREE, with the exception of Talking Heads (that was generously funded by UCT’s Graduate School of Business). This event gave audience members an opportunity to meet and be wowed by some of Cape Town’s most inspiring people.
