Lerato Shadi's Biography
Lerato Shadi is a South African visual/performance artist and currently lives and works in Johannesburg. She holds a BFA from the University of Johannesburg and has exhibited extensively over the past two years. Her solo video exhibition Aboleleng and Hema showed in the Side Gallery at Michael Stevenson in Cape Town and in the Project Room at the Johannesburg Art Gallery in 2007.
In 2008, Lerato collaborated with the internationally acclaimed South African rock band “Blk Jks” for a cultural reality show. The end product was a rock performance act that took place at the Drill Hall in Johannesburg. In September 2008, Lerato was invited to take part in an artist workshop at the Museum of Contemporary Art Castello di Rivoli in Italy. She is one of 10 South African artists that featured in the international artist directory Younger than Jesus, published by the New Museum, New York. In 2009 she was part of a 10 day residency workshop in Belgrade and most recently she made a performance intervention for the 4th World Summit on Arts and Culture in Johannesburg. She is currently working with a safe haven for teenagers in a program that aims to introduce then to the visual arts by getting them exposed to galleries.
